"At Stella Maris Parish, it is our goal to inspire our youth to take charge of their spiritual lives. We strive to give them the opportunity to develop long-lasting friendships and the skills necessary to become missionary disciples of Christ."
Youth Group will begin in early November! Please register.
We can't wait to get started up again. We will be looking at current COVID-19 restrictions and will be calling on your creativity as we navigate this time to the best of our ability. Families, please stay tuned for a survey, and contact Alicia Hunt at email@example.com if you are not already on the email list.
Information regarding the structure of our Youth Group and Confirmation Program
For our Confirmation program
We would like your teen to be ready to celebrate the Sacrament when they have a good understanding of what they are seeking and not just because they are in grade 9. How do you know your child is ready? The answer is we help them discern their readiness in discussion with their family, as parents the first educators of the faith for their children. Many of our parents have found this to be a great approach as it does seem to work out better for the families by taking pressure off of both the parent and the child. Through challenging and informative faith topics, questions, presentations, guest speakers and small group work, we will give the teens and parents the full knowledge of what is expected of them before they are Confirmed. From there, the teens and their families can determine if they are ready for this crucial step in their teens faith. Our goal is to inspire our youth to take up a spiritual journey in which they are fully ready to come to Christ in this important sacrament.
The goal of our program is to not only have your teen Confirmed in the Catholic Church but to teach them how to put their Confirmation into practice. In Confirmation, “the soul of a baptized Christian is imprinted with a permanent seal that can be received only once and marks this individual forever as a Christian. The gift of the Holy Spirit is the strength from above in which this individual puts the grace of his Baptism into practice through his life and acts as a “witness” for Christ. (1302 YOUcat) Your teen is welcome to stay in our program as long as they like and will be encouraged to take on leadership roles as they mature in faith.
The structure of our Youth Group
In our Youth Group program, we consistently see benefits that help improve the lives of the teens who attend. From active participation, we see our teens grow in their friendships, self esteem, and leadership abilities as they develop personal relationships with Jesus Christ.
Anyone grade 7 and up is invited and welcomed - youth are encouraged to bring their friends. We meet from 7-8:30pm every Wednesday evening starting in October. Our leaders are a team of young adults and adults who co- lead the evening together. The night consists of presentation faith topics, games, skits, and music. We place the youth in small discussion groups with students their own age, lead by one of our team leaders. We strive to provide an atmosphere of fun, friendship, and spiritual knowledge. We encourage all teens to participate in our fundraising, service, hospitality and offer the opportunity to be mentored into our leadership team. Sacramental prep will take place in the last five weeks of the program year, ending by the 31st of May. We encourage teens to attend the Atlantic Steubenville conference with our parish after grade 8.
This program would not be possible without all the support we receive from parents and sponsors. We are always looking for volunteers. Thank you for prayerfully considering joining our team. More information will be available in September once families have registered via our new Website.
